Arranging an assessment

Outpatient appointments are booked through the hospital on the numbers listed below; international patients can ask for Michael Yu. Bring photographs of how your shape has changed over time if you have them, a note of any weight change in the last year, and clothing that lets the torso be examined. If a previous session of fat removal was done elsewhere, bring the record of what was removed and from where.

What the consultation should establish

By the end of a good assessment you should know how much of the waist is frame and how much is fat, whether the plan runs around the torso or across the front, where the treatment stops at the rib cage and at the hip, whether the abdomen is included, how much is planned and in how many sessions, and what the compression routine will be. If the edges of treatment have not been mentioned, ask where they will fall.

Second opinions

Seeking a second opinion is normal and does not offend a competent surgeon. If a plan has been proposed elsewhere, bring the surfaces it covers, the volume it names and what it says about the transition at the side and the back. A second opinion that examines your torso is more useful than one that reads the plan, particularly where a step-off is the concern.

Before you book anything

No decision needs to be made on the day of a first consultation. Take the plan away, read it against the guides here, and come back with questions. Pressure to decide immediately, or a discount that expires, tells you about the clinic rather than about your waist.
